Description
A silky, aromatic Christmas Eve dessert with a buttery crust, creamy vanilla custard filling, and a touch of warm cinnamon simple yet elegant for your holiday table.
Ingredients
1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
3 large eggs
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp salt
Cinnamon sugar for topping
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Place the unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and crimp the edges as desired.
3. In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk and cream until just steaming — do not boil.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, flour, salt, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth.
5. Slowly pour the warm milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to temper the eggs.
6. Strain the custard mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a clean bowl for a silky texture.
7. Pour the custard into the prepared pie crust.
8. Sprinkle the top lightly with cinnamon sugar.
9. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the center is set but still slightly jiggly.
10. Cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
11. Serve chilled or slightly warmed with a dusting of cinnamon or a dollop of whipped cream.
Notes
For extra flavor, add a splash of rum or brandy to the custard mixture.
To avoid cracks, do not overbake — the center should still wobble slightly when removed from the oven.
Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
This pie tastes even better the next day as the flavors meld together.
