Description

Delicious pinwheels filled with savory roast beef, gooey provolone, and caramelized onions, perfect for appetizers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
  • Kosher salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 (8 oz) store-bought crescent dough sheets
  • 16 slices provolone cheese, divided
  • ¾ lb sliced deli roast beef
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef stock
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • Kosher salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and fresh thyme, seasoning with salt and pepper. Cook until caramelized, about 10–15 minutes.
  3. Unroll the crescent dough sheets and lay them flat on a clean surface.
  4. Layer half of the provolone cheese slices over the dough, followed by half of the caramelized onions and half of the roast beef slices.
  5. Roll the dough into a log and slice into 1-inch pinwheels. Repeat for the second sheet.
  6. Place the pinwheels cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Prepare the dipping sauce by melting an additional tablespoon of butter in a saucepan. Cook the minced garlic for 30 seconds, then stir in beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 5–7 minutes.
  8. Serve the pinwheels warm with the au jus for dipping.

Notes
