Delicious and crispy homemade onion rings made in the air fryer, perfect for movie nights or gatherings.
Ingredients

- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 large sweet onion, cut into 1/2-in.-thick rounds and separated into rings
- Cooking spray
Instructions
- Mix the dry ingredients: Stir together the flour, smoked paprika, and 1/4 teaspoon of the salt in a shallow dish.
- Prepare the egg wash: In another shallow dish, lightly beat the egg and water until well combined.
- Make the breadcrumb mixture: In a third shallow dish, combine the panko breadcrumbs with the remaining 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
- Dredge the onion rings: Dredge the onion rings in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- Dip in egg wash: Dip the floured onion rings into the egg mixture, letting excess drip back.
- Coat with breadcrumbs: Dredge the egg-coated onion rings in the panko mixture, pressing to ensure breadcrumbs stick.
- Spray with cooking oil: Coat both sides of the onion rings lightly with cooking spray.
- Air fry them: Lay each onion ring in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook at 375°F (190°C) for about 10 minutes, flipping at the six-minute mark.
Notes
Serve with ranch dressing or marinara sauce for dipping. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
