Description

A comforting and delicious recipe for crispy chicken fried chicken, perfect for family gatherings or potlucks.


Ingredients

  • 68 thin sliced chicken breasts
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce
  • Oil for frying
  • 1/4 cup reserved oil from frying
  • 1/3 cup flour (for gravy)
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Start by heating oil in a deep fryer or large pan to about 325°F.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and hot sauce.
  4. Dredge each chicken breast in the flour mixture, dip it in the egg mixture, and coat it again in the flour mixture.
  5. Fry the chicken for 3-5 minutes on each side until it’s golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  6. To make the gravy, heat 1/4 inch of reserved oil in the pan and stir in the reserved flour.
  7. Slowly whisk in the milk until the gravy thickens. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Serve gravy over the crispy fried chicken.
