Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 6 large eggs, separated
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a cake pan.
  2. Melt the dark chocolate and butter together in a double boiler or microwave until smooth, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks with the granulated sugar and vanilla extract until the mixture becomes pale and creamy.
  4. Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg yolk mixture. Stir until well combined and smooth.
  5. In another bowl, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks form.
  6. Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the chocolate mixture.
  7. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
  8. Fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture carefully until everything blends seamlessly.
  9. Pour the mixture into the prepared cake pan and refrigerate for at least 240 minutes or until fully set.
  10. Serve chilled, optionally garnished with whipped cream or chocolate shavings.
